The first Auburn Tiger is off the board, as forward Johni Broome has been selected 35 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Broome will be remembered as one of the most accomplished and decorated players in the history of the Auburn Men’s Basketball program.

This season Broome was named the Sporting News National Player of the Year and the SEC Player of the Year. After beginning his career at Morehead State, Broome transferred to Auburn to play under Bruce Pearl, where he improved each and every season, culminating in being named a first team All-American by the Associated Press.

He is second in program history in total rebounds, third in blocks, and first in all-time average player efficiency rating. Beyond Player of the Year awards, Broome also received the Karl Malone Award for the nation’s top power forward.

Broome was a projected second-round pick in this year’s draft by a number of publications, and projects as a player who will have solid touch around the basket, and with an improved three-pointer, could force defenders out to the perimeter, thus stretching the floor.

He will look to continue his defensive game, and elite athleticism remains one of his more glaring weaknesses.
