D’Angelo Russell will begin a new chapter of his career with the Dallas Mavericks.
Following a turbulent 2024-25 NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets, D’Angelo Russell will now don the Dallas Mavericks‘ jersey.
Ahead of Year 11 in the NBA, Russell shared a statement that will make the Mavericks fanbase happy about his debut season with the team.

At this point in his career, D’Lo has experienced the highs and lows of playing in the NBA. Evidently, he has also identified his biggest strengths on the court.
Keeping that in mind, Russell recently explained why he’ll play well for the Mavericks by seemingly taking a shot at his former head coach JJ Redick.
“I think a guy like me, plugging into a system like this. Not every team has a coach that’s played, has credibility with the team that’s already here, not including me,” Russell said on the Locked On Mavs.
He added: “I’ve had limited structure in my career. So to get to an organization, as you can see, full on structure from the youth, coaches, from veterans, to plug me into something like that, I like my odds.”

While there’s no doubt that Russell praised Jason Kidd and the Mavericks, he certainly took a subtle dig at his former organization.
What the Dallas Mavericks should expect from D’Angelo Russell
Last season, Russell played in 58 games, averaging 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting a terrible 39.0% from the field.
Assuming he fixes his shooting percentage, Russell could be among the most exciting players for the Mavs next season.
In fact, with Kyrie Irving sidelined to start the season, D’Lo has a shot at impressing coach Kidd and earning starting minutes as the point guard.
As far as his arrival is considered, even Klay Thompson heaped huge praise on Russell ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.
