Despite the hype, a recent report confirmed that LeBron James is currently detached from the Lakers’ preseason activities. Head coach JJ Redick disclosed that James is dealing with nerve irritation in his glute. Because of the injury, James will not be available for Friday’s preseason game against the Phoenix Suns.
As James enters his historic 23rd season in the NBA, concerns about durability naturally surface. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin explained ahead of the Lakers’ first practice that James’ camp has urged the team to take an “overly cautious” approach with the 40-year-old.

During the Lakers’ media day, LeBron James was asked how he continues to perform at such a high level despite his age and years of mileage on the court. James responded with humility while acknowledging his passion for the game.
“I mean, it’s pretty cool to like, um. I don’t know, just to know how many miles I got as far as this game in my 22 years now starting 23 years, and, uh, to still be able to play at a high level, to still be able to go out there and can make plays and be respectful on the floor. It’s just super humbling and gratifying for me personally. I love to play the game, and I love to play at a high level. For me, age is kind of just a number,” LeBron said.
At 40 years old, James continues to defy expectations. He is still playing with the same energy and drive as if he were still in his rookie season.
