Donovan Mitchell can’t wait to make Coco Jones his wife!
Two months after he and the “ICU” singer, 27, announced their engagement, the NBA star, 29, is opening up about the relationship milestone. When asked about Jones while speaking with reporters during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ team media day on Monday, Sept. 29, Mitchell said, “Man, that’s my dog. I love her to death.”
“She’s amazing. She’s an amazing human being. She brings me peace,” he continued, before sharing that he had an opportunity to spend some time with Jones on her Why Not More Tour? — which kicked off in May and recently wrapped — and get a glimpse into her music life.
“Getting to spend time with her on tour was something that was very unique ’cause you realize that she travels and works just as hard as we do. On the tour bus, up late nights,” Mitchell said.
“She’s a special human,” he continued. “And you see it in her work, and to be able to call her my fiancée, my wife, is a blessing. So, I’m grateful.”
Jones announced their engagement on July 1. After keeping the details of their romance mostly private, she shared an Instagram photo of herself kissing Mitchell as she rested her hand on his chest, showcasing her dazzling ring.
In his own post, the Cavs guard shared the same photo, along with a clip showing an aerial view of the proposal, which took place by a pool surrounded by swaying palm trees. Mitchell can be seen getting down on one knee to pop the question. After Jones said “yes,” the pair embraced.

In a joint statement, reps for the couple told PEOPLE at the time: “After an amazing season and a sold-out tour, Donovan Mitchell and Coco Jones took a moment to recharge on vacation, which turned it into a beautiful engagement.”
The reps added: “The couple has been dating for two years and look forward to building a life together.”
Prior to the engagement, Jones was often asked about Mitchell in interviews, but she kept mostly mum about their relationship. While appearing on The Breakfast Club in April, she fielded the question by saying simply, “I’m happy, and that’s all I got to say about it.”

On Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast in February, Jones joked about all the online speculation about her personal life from fans.
“I love the internet because they definitely clocked my tea. I love that. Little spies everywhere. I feel like I’m in a detective movie,” she said at the time.
“But you know what, I’m happy,” she continued. “And I will say my music is the outlet that I use to tell most of my stories and my truth, and some things I keep for myself ‘cause this is my life, too.”
