SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – It’s year two for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA coming to IMG Academy to begin their training camp for their upcoming season.
The Cavs are coming off of a 2024-25 campaign that saw them go 64-18 during the regular season. They finished in first place in the Eastern Conference, but they went home in the second round of the playoffs after losing in five games to the Indiana Pacers.
Head coach Kenny Atkinson, is entering his second year with the franchise. He says it’s great to be back on the Suncoast for a second straight year to train, while soaking up the sunshine.
“Listen, it worked out last year, right,” Atkinson said. “That’s just in terms of how we got off to a start. Florida’s a great place to be. I like this kind of old school, getting out of our facility and discovering a new place.”
Now of course it’s all about getting to business on the basketball court first and foremost. However, they like to relax in their time away from the hardwood, specifically by going to the beach.
“We were able to go to the beach and it’s a little humid out here,” Jarrett Allen, the Cavs starting center, said. “The sun sticks to you. I don’t how to say it, but you rub your arm and it’s sticky. It’s just good out here. It feels good with the warm weather. It’s easy and slow.”
The Cavaliers will be training on the Suncoast until Sunday afternoon when their week at IMG Academy wraps up.
