Any discussion about the best NBA players to ever come out of Germany should start and end with the name Dirk Nowitzki. Not to mention he is one of the best hoopers to ever make the NBA from all of Europe. Â Â
On top of all that, there can be no denying Nowitzki’s status as the greatest player in Dallas Mavericks history, having played 21 seasons for the franchise and leading them to a championship in 2011.

And perhaps there is no better way for the organization to celebrate the 2007 league MVP than to honor him with a spectacular basketball court in his hometown of Würzburg, Germany. And low and behold, that is exactly what they did.
Practically the entire court is covered with the color blue of the Mavericks uniform, and its’ standout attributes are the enormous logo of Nowitzki’s trademark fadeaway and his iconic number 41 painted right in the middle.
These facets are hard to miss and any basketball fan who sees them would immediately recognise that this outdoor basketball establishment is a celebration of Dirk’s legacy.   Â
The court being opened on October 1 also helps to commemorate Nowitzki’s off court impact. The opening date is significant as on that very date in 2005, Nowitzki set up the Dirk Nowitzki-Stiftung in Würzburg, which operates as his foundation’s German arm with the aim of promoting the health and education of the youth.

The Mavericks have also previously opened basketball courts in Slovenia, Spain and Mexico, and this court in Germany is now the fourth country where they have worked on an international project and constructed a basketball court. Â
It goes without saying that Nowitzki’s impact in Dallas and in his home country goes beyond measure, and this initiative from his team will only help Dirk’s legacy live on forever. Â
