Nate Ament is the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports.

Well, the Tennessee basketball freshman was for about 24 hours anyway. Ament rose three spots to the No. 1 ranking on Oct. 1. By the end of the day on Oct. 2, Ament was back at No. 4 with no mention of the No. 1 ranking on his ranking history page. He had been ranked the No. 4 prospect in the nation since September 2024.

Kansas guard Darryn Peterson and BYU forward AJ Dybantsa had flipped back and forth in the top spot prior with Ament barely behind before Ament vaulted into the top spot. He was ranked behind Peterson, Dybantsa and Duke forward Cameron Boozer after the rankings changed again.

Ament made Vols history when he signed with Tennessee and coach Rick Barnes in April. The 6-foot-10, 207-pound forward was the highest-rated recruit in program history. He was ranked No. 4 in the 247Sports Composite when he committed on April 20. Ament picked Tennessee over Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky and Louisville.

He played at Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia.

“Nate, where he is, we’re more than pleased with what he’s done and the way he has come in,” Barnes said on Sept. 23. “We got everything that we thought we would get, plus 10 times more. We’re excited about him.”

UT signed five players in the 2025 class, which was highlighted by Ament.

Guard Amari Evans was ranked No. 50 by 247Sports, while forward DeWayne Brown II was No. 109.. Guards Troy Henderson and Clarence Massamba were not ranked. Henderson had been ranked No. 240 on Oct. 1.

The Vols open the 2025-26 season against Mercer at Food City Center on Nov. 3.
