The Utah Jazz have a massive day coming on May 12th. If you didn’t know, it’s NBA Lottery night and we find out if the Utah Jazz win the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.
If they win the next NBA superstar, the question becomes whether they will want to go to the playoffs or tank again. It looks like a majority of Jazz fans want to go to the playoffs.

In all honesty, 60% is lower than I expected when I set up this question. The average fan wants to win. I’m not sure if it’s a Utah thing, but it feels like there’s a large group of fans that don’t like tanking for superstar talent. Whether they just like their team to go for it every year, they don’t believe in tanking, or are part of a strange contingent of fatalists, they are very against trying for stars.
The fact that 40% are against going for the playoffs has to be more than last year. This was the first time in team history that the Jazz ended a season with less than 20 wins. Maybe it’s just getting used to it, or maybe Jazz fans are learning the benefits of losing games, but it feels like fans are increasingly understanding the benefits of losing games for potential MVP-level talent. One thing is clear, the odds of getting someone like Cooper Flagg have never been better.
Now, all we can do is wait to May 12th to find out if the Jazz will have Cooper Flagg on their team next year.
