The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the New York Knicks 112-104 as they dropped both games in Abu Dhabi to begin the preseason. The Sixers saw some positive moments on Saturday as they knocked down 12 triples compared to just three in Thursday’s loss, but one big positive was the play of rookie VJ Edgecombe.
The No. 3 overall pick had 10 points, two assists, and a block as he did some positive things on both ends of the floor. If the first two preseason games are any indication, Edgecombe is going to give the Sixers a lot of good production. He has a high basketball IQ and NBA-level athleticism to boot and he showed it against the Knicks.
Edgecombe missed a poster slam on Thursday, but he wasn’t going to waste another opportunity on Saturday. Off a pass from Tyrese Maxey, the rookie drove to the basket and threw down a vicious one-handed slam. He had Knicks forward OG Anunoby making business decisions.
Edgecombe and the Sixers will return stateside and prepare for their next preseason game when they host the Orlando Magic on Oct. 10.
