PROVO, Utah – KJ Perry has committed to BYU basketball.

The nation’s top junior college recruit in the class of 2026 announced his commitment to the Cougars on Sunday. Perry is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard from Citrus College, located near Los Angeles.

The bouncy, explosive guard was a bucket-getter in his one season at Citrus College, earning All-State honors from the California Community College Athletic Association.

Perry picked BYU over schools such as TCU, SMU, and USC. The four-star prospect also received offers from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Texas A&M, Oregon, NC State, UNLV, and others.

Perry took an official visit to BYU last month. The Cougars jumped into the mix over the summer during the July live period.

Coming out of Southern California Academy, Perry was initially committed to Cal State Northridge before pivoting to the Junior College route.

It paid off, as 247Sports ranks Perry as the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the 2026 class.

Perry joins Timpview’s Dean Reueckert and Will Openshaw as BYU’s three commitments for the class of 2026.

In his one season at Citrus College, Perry played in 32 games, averaging 17.5 points, dishing out 2.8 assists, and grabbing 2.5 rebounds per game. He shot 49.5% from the field and 34.7% from three-point range.

Scored 48 points in a game for Citrus College last season

Last December, against Santiago Canyon, Perry tied a Citrus College record for most points in a single game with 48. He knocked down a program-best 14 field goals, shooting 60% from the field in the historic outing that lifted Citrus to a victory.

Perry had eight games last season where he scored more than 20 points.

The early signing period for college basketball in the 2026 cycle begins on November 12 and runs until November 19.

Perry is expected to join BYU as a midyear addition when the winter semester begins. He will redshirt for the 2025-26 season, then have three years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2026-27 campaign.
