Perspective is everything when it comes to seeing the bigger picture, and Boston Celtics two way player Amari Williams knows that better than most when it comes to a Latvian breakfast. The future University of Kentucky standout would often make trips across Europe with his British high school team, and teammate Great Osobor recalled Williams as an especially picky eater in an interview with Hardwood Houdini’s Jack Simone.
Osobor recalled of Williams’ atypical approach (at least from his point of view) to the first meal of the day, saying “he used to be such a picky eater” in high school. “We’ll go to dinner, and everybody’s eating, and Amari would have a stack of just bread rolls, and at dinner, that’s all he would eat. And we (were) there for a week, and all he ate was bread rolls.”
Williams, for his part, remembers that trip a bit differently, even if he did confirm the bread roll aspect of the tale.
“I don’t know why everyone says that, but I just don’t like— Overseas is very different when it comes to food,” he related. “And we went to, I think it was Latvia, and they gave us spaghetti with Parmesan cheese for breakfast. That was it.”
“So, I was like, ‘I can’t.’ That’s something I’m not eating. Bread rolls on the other hand? “I’d rather just do that,” suggested Williams. Perhaps the new Boston big man is lactose intolerant — or just the rare person who does not enjoy spaghetti.
But even in the mundane, quotidian aspects of life, having the right perspective on what is going on can transform one’s understanding of a situation. Just ask Amari about the bread rolls.
