A reported family move for Milwaukee Brewers star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has sparked major speculation.
Antetokounmpo, 30, has been with the Milwaukee Brewers since the start of his career. He led the Bucks, who drafted him in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft, to a championship in 2021. He’s a nine-time NBA All-Star and a two-time league MVP, winning the award in 2019 and ’20. But while the Bucks have contended for much of Giannis’s prime, they’ve fallen off in recent seasons.

Trade speculation has been swirling for Giannis over the past year, with teams like the Knicks, Heat, Clippers and others being linked to the legendary NBA star. Now, a reported family move has caused more speculation.

According to a report out of Greece, Giannis’s family, which includes his wife, Mariah, and their four young children, has moved out of the United States.
They are now living in Athens, Greece, attending school in the European country.

“According to the ‘Grace’ column of ‘To Vima’, after months of discussions by the entire Antetokounmpo, Mariah was asked if she preferred Milwaukee, where Giannis plays for the NBA’s Bucks, or Athens, with the nod going to the Greek capital. The couple’s two eldest children, five-year-old Liam Charles and four-year-old Maverick Shai have also started attending an elite private kindergarten in the same district,” the country reports.
One team is eyeing Giannis the most
According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, one team is eyeing Giannis more than most – the Knicks.

The Knicks, who lost in the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals, have been trying to trade for Giannis for about a year.
“The Knicks have had an eye on Antetokounmpo for the past couple of years under president Leon Rose, who heads a front office that built the franchise into a perennial playoff contender since taking over in 2020. People in league circles, including some in New York, have believed since 2024 that Antetokounmpo would eventually want to come to the Knicks if he ever explored a trade,” he reported.
Giannis has made it clear that he just wants to be on a team that is trying to win as hard as possible.

“I want to be on a team that allows me and gives me a chance to win a championship,” Antetokounmpo said Sept. 29 at media day. “I think it’s a disservice to basketball, just to the game, to not want it to compete in a high level, to want your season to end in April.”
“The last three years, we’ve been eliminated in the first round, so it’s not much to talk about,” he added. “We just got to put our heads down and stay locked in the whole year long and try to win some games and hopefully get in the playoffs and then don’t get eliminated in the first round. That’s pretty much it. And then we go from there.”
With his family now moving out of Milwaukee, it would certainly be easier for him to land elsewhere.
