The Charlotte Hornets are trying to make sense of their roster before the NBA regular season arrives.

To do so, they have waived the son of an NBA Hall of Famer.

The Hornets announced on Tuesday that they have waived DJ Rodman.

Rodman was part of the Hornets’ training camp roster.

He’s the son of Dennis Rodman (along with the brother of women’s soccer superstar Trinity Rodman).

DJ Rodman went undrafted out of USC in 2024. He spent last season in the G League.

In 25 games with the Maine Celtics last season, he averaged 6.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

The Hornets got their first look at Rodman this summer as he suited up for them in Summer League.

Rodman had played his college basketball between Washington State and USC.

At 6-foot-6, Rodman is a combo guard with good length.

He’s one of many players to be waived at this point in the NBA calendar. The most likely outcome is that he goes unclaimed and then ends up playing for the Hornets’ G League team, the Greensboro Swarm.

There’s also a chance Rodman is claimed by a different team, or that he opts to sign elsewhere after he clears waivers.

For now, all that’s certain is that Rodman won’t be part of the NBA roster in Charlotte to start the season, which isn’t a particular surprise.
