The Washington Wizards announced Tuesday they will partner with nonprofit Learn Fresh for a third straight year to offer the 2025-26 Wizards Math Hoops curriculum, presented by KPMG LLP.

The program, designed for fourth through eighth graders in the Washington area, adapts the NBA Math Hoops curriculum to help students improve their mathematics skills through basketball-themed lessons. It combines sports with STEM education to boost math proficiency, critical thinking and academic confidence through interactive activities.

More than 3,500 students in the Washington metropolitan area participated last year. Student Zyllian “Andrea” Martinez and teacher Shana Smith from Furley Elementary School/STEAM XR Sports in Baltimore won the 2024-25 competition, with Martinez representing the Wizards’ region at the 2025 NBA Math Hoops Global Championship in New York City. Smith was named one of five outstanding educators and also represented the region in New York.

The program provides educators with a 10-lesson curriculum that integrates math concepts into basketball terms and examples, along with an interactive board game that lets students build math skills while competing against classmates. Students work with current NBA and WNBA player statistics during the lessons.

Teachers also receive access to a digital educator portal and app, plus ongoing support and training.
