Brooklyn Nets rookie big man Danny Wolf is one of the more interesting players heading into the 2025-26 season. Selected No. 27 overall in the draft back in June, Wolf is somebody who embodies today’s NBA with his versatility as a big man.
Standing at 7-feet tall, Wolf can handle the ball, make immaculate passes, rebound the ball, run the break, and can knock down a triple. He averaged 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 49.7% from the floor and 33.6% from deep in the 2024-25 season while at Michigan. Those are some impressive numbers that the rebuilding Nets hope he can take with him to the NBA.
Coach Jordi Fernandez, who was an assistant with the Denver Nuggets from 2016 through 2022, gave an interesting comparison for Wolf in the form of Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic. He told reporters today per ClutchPoints:
“I think that you have to be creative with players that are uncommon,” the Nets coach said. “I was very fortunate to work with Nikola [Jokic], and we had to let him show us what he was able to do. Otherwise, if you see him as a traditional player, then you could fail, and I think that’s what Coach [Michael] Malone did very well. Nikola showed certain things that were so different for his position and a seven-footer, and that’s why he makes all these plays and plays in situations and positions where no other big man plays.”
Time will tell whether Wolf is truly an uncommon player, but the Nets certainly hope he will become one. The franchise needs to find a foundation to build the future on and the hope is that Wolf can be a part of that foundation and help the team move back towards respectability.
