Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain is beginning the 2025-26 season on the shelf after the second-year guard suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb. The No. 16 pick of the 2024 draft was limited to 23 games in his rookie season after he tore his meniscus and had to undergo surgery in December so this is tough for him to have to battle through.

McCain averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 38.3% from deep in those 23 games as a rookie, so there is hope that once he returns, he will be able to take on a bigger role in Philadelphia in his second season in the league. His shooting and movement off the ball will do wonders for him as he moves forward in his career.

In his latest vlog on his YouTube channel, McCain discussed his thumb injury as he prepared for surgery up in New York:

Not the best way to start the 2025–2026 season, but it happens. The universe wants me to go through this. So never, ever, ever question the universe and God’s energies, and what they give to you, because they only give it to you for you to learn from it, to grow from it, and to be great from it. So never question it, but it definitely sucks that I gotta get another surgery. In the past, what, eight months? I’ve had two surgeries.

The Sixers will hope McCain can get back on the court sooner rather than later when he gets re-evaluated in early November. By that point, Philadelphia would have already played a few games, and the young guard out of Duke will have to play catch-up and give the Sixers some floor spacing.
