The Orlando Magic have cut ties with guard Johnell Davis and forward Justin Minaya.

The Magic signed free agent Jalen Crutcher in a corresponding move to maintain the 21-man roster size.

Minaya has 57 games of NBA experience under his belt over three seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers. He has averaged 1.7 points per game across 10 minutes, making just one career start during the 2023-24 campaign.

In the G League, Minaya averaged 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game across his three seasons with the Rip City Remix (Portland Trail Blazers affiliate) and Mexico City Capitanes (unaffiliated).

The undrafted forward is the son of New York Yankees executive Omar Minaya, who has quite the resume around the baseball world. After injuries halted his short stint in the minor leagues, Minaya worked on the Texas Rangers scouting team in 1985, before working his way up to becoming the assistant general manager of the New York Mets during the late 1990s.

Next, Minaya became the general manager of the Montreal Expos in 2002, and would return to the Mets to become their general manager in 2004 and serve until the end of the 2010 campaign.

After working as the senior vice president of baseball operations for the San Diego Padres during the 2012 season, and joining the Major League Baseball Players Association as a senior advisor to the executive director, Minaya would return to the Mets as a special assistant to the general manager ahead of the 2018 campaign.

After being dismissed and briefly rehired as a consultant, Minaya took a job with MLB to serve as a consultatnt for amateur scouting initiatives. He was hired by the New York Yankees ahead of the 2023 campaign as a senior advisor to baseball operations and currently serves as the special assistant to the general manager.
