The Chicago Bulls face the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight in preseason action at Rocket Arena.

Cleveland enters the preseason riding high after a dominant 2024–25 regular season, finishing atop the Eastern Conference, but getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers in the semifinals. With the Pacers and Boston Celtics being dealt blows to their top stars, perhaps only the New York Knicks stand in the way of the Cavaliers in the East — if they can remain healthy.

Injuries bedeviled Cleveland in the playoffs and remain an issue in the preseason. Darius Garland’s status in the preseason is unclear. He’s still recovering from toe surgery over the summer, working his way back with light workouts. But Cleveland has insurance at point, acquiring Lonzo Ball in exchange for Isaac Okoro, who will pair with Donovan Mitchell in the backcourt tonight.

The Bulls, meanwhile, are leaning further into youth and development. Their biggest offseason move was a long-term extension for Josh Giddey, reinforcing confidence in their guard-driven core. They also acquired Noa Essengue, a 6-foot-10 forward from France with their 12th overall pick. Chicago retained Nikola Vucevic and will look to Coby White, Tre Jones, and Giddey to balance scoring and playmaking.

White will be a gametime decision for the Bulls. Garland and Max Strus will be out for the Cavs.
