Since taking leadership of the Miami Heat in 2008, Spoelstra has turned the team into a dominant force, winning two NBA titles in 2012 and 2013. He has established himself as a tactical genius with six NBA Finals appearances.
With the most wins in Heat history and the fifth-most playoff victories in NBA history (109), Spoelstra is the NBA’s longest-tenured current head coach.
Erik Spoelstra followed a planned succession plan to become the head coach of USA Basketball. He was Steve Kerr’s lead assistant during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where Team USA defeated France 98-87 to win their fifth straight Olympic gold medal.
