Memphis Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo will find out how deep his roster truly is during the preseason.
The team will be without Ja Morant for the preseason opener at FedExForum against the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 6 due to Morant’s left ankle sprain. He was described as “week to week” due to the injury.
“It was just a basketball play,” Iisalo said. “That stuff happens. Luckily, it’s preseason and we’ll have him back soon.”
When asked about Morant’s potential availability for the regular-season opener on Oct. 22, Iisalo stuck with the already public timeline.
“He’s week to week,” Iisalo said.
With Morant out, the Grizzlies are currently missing three of their projected starters. Jaren Jackson Jr. had a toe procedure this offseason, putting his status for the season opener in jeopardy. Edey will miss the start of the season after he had an offseason procedure on his left ankle.
