The Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard has been in the headlines throughout the 2025 NBA offseason. The controversy started when Pablo Torre revealed that the Clippers paid Leonard through a now-bankrupt company, Aspiration, to circumvent the salary cap.
The league is currently investigating the scandal and has not reached any conclusion. However, the Clippers are reportedly confident about the outcome of the investigation. Meanwhile, Leonard took time to answer the reporters. During a recent interview, he reflected on the Clippers having a lot of “uncs” on this team.
“I’ve been an unc for a long time. Since I was 16 years old, it’s nothing new. I started on a team with a lot of veterans. It’s nothing new to me. When I first came in, I was with a lot of greats. Tim Duncan, Tony, Manu, Stephen Jackson, TJ Ford, Richard Jefferson. It’s been like that for me,” Leonard said (via Joey Linn).
Leonard made intense efforts for the Clippers in the 2024-25 NBA season. He led the team to the postseason by averaging 21.5 points, 3.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game. However, the team fell short in the round 1 playoffs series against the Denver Nuggets.
Kawhi Leonard Opens Up About Playing In The Preseason
Leonard missed the first 34 games during the 2024-25 NBA season due to inflammation in his right knee. However, the situation was different this time, as he stunned the basketball fans during the Clippers’ recent preseason game against the Guangzhou Loong-Lions.
Leonard played for 18 minutes and scored 18 points and two assists. The Clippers won the game with the final score 142-95. During an interview after the game, Leonard reflected on playing in the preseason after being unable to suit up before January last season.
“It was good. It’s always good to see what we’ve been working on at practice, and then see how you can perform in front of fans with a lot of distractions,” Leonard said (via Law Murray).
The Clippers will play their first regular-season game of the 2025-26 NBA season against the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center.
