The Orlando Magic head to Philly tonight to face the Philadelphia 76ers in preseason action at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Philadelphia returns home after its Abu Dhabi games, but remains shorthanded: Joel Embiid and Paul George are still recovering from knee procedures, Jared McCain is out following thumb surgery, VJ Edgecombe is questionable with hip soreness, and Quentin Grimes is a gametime decision.

Orlando is also managing injuries, with Jalen Suggs and Moritz Wagner sidelined by knee issues. Still, the Magic are entering this season with higher expectations after adding Desmond Bane to complement their frontcourt duo of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, who will make his first preseason appearance tonight.

Bane’s perimeter shooting and secondary playmaking are exactly what Orlando lacked in last year’s first-round playoff loss, giving the team a more balanced offensive attack.

In their preseason opener, the Magic defeated the Miami Heat 126–118, showing flashes of a faster pace and deeper scoring options. With Banchero and Wagner healthy and surrounded by improved spacing, Orlando looks poised to evolve from a scrappy defensive team into a legitimate Eastern Conference riser.

Tonight’s matchup offers another glimpse of how those upgrades are meshing — and whether the Magic’s young core is ready to take the next step.
