The New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks engaged in trade talks surrounding star Giannis Antetokounmpo in August, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The New York Knicks were reportedly Giannis Antetokounmpo’s only desired trade destination if he were to leave the Milwaukee Bucks.

However, the teams failed to reach an agreement when the Bucks reportedly were left far from satisfied with New York’s initial offers and didn’t negotiate further.

It is unclear what the Knicks offer was but the Knicks reportedly felt that the Bucks weren’t serious about trading Giannis Antetokounmpo.

If the Knicks do reengage in trade talks with the Bucks for Giannis, they won’t be willing to part ways with one of their stars.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Knicks have made star guard Jalen Brunson untouchable in trade negotiations for Antetokounmpo.

“In terms of possible players being involved, the common sense lens turns toward Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson.”

The Knicks still have the players to form a strong package for Giannis, but the Bucks’ asking price might be too much for New York to match.

What New York Knicks could offer Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo

If the Knicks wouldn’t want to part ways with Brunson, their next best player, the Bucks could be interested in, is Karl-Anthony Towns.

If the Knicks did include Towns, they would have to attach a ton of future first-round pick swaps and second-round picks.

However, if the Knicks didn’t want to part ways with Towns, they would then likely have to trade two of Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart.

If the Knicks were able to get Giannis without including Brunson or Towns, they would be a serious championship contender for many years to come.
