Nikola Jokic led his Denver Nuggets team to an NBA championship in 2023. However, since that glorious moment, the Nuggets’ championship dreams have fallen short, with back-to-back exits in the Conference semifinals.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder have emerged as the new powerhouse in the West. After capturing their first NBA title since relocating, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s team now stands as the top favorite to win it all again next season.
Recently, during a media interaction, Jokic was asked about the Thunder being the heavy favorites for the upcoming season. With his signature calm attitude, Jokic shared that Denver still embraces its underdog spirit despite being recent champions.
“I think we were never the favorite, even when we won it, so I didn’t feel the pressure since I’m here, but they definitely hunted one, and they’re playing good, you know, so hopefully we can beat the silent horse, dark horse, I call it,” Jokic said as per Bennett Durando.
With a strong roster featuring Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun, Jokic, and Cam Johnson, there are some real hopes for the Denver team. Jokic also revealed that the Nuggets are trying a more aggressive defensive approach this year.
“We are basically testing the refs to call the fouls. We are trying to be aggressive,” he said.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on Nikola Jokic’s remarks. Many showed optimism about Denver’s chances.
“My goat finally has a bench 👏 think people are underrating how far they can go this season,” one fan wrote.
“He’s looking for Silent but Deadly,” an optimistic fan commented.
“underdog. silent night. holy night,” a fan added.
“wow goat doesn’t wanna be a favorite,” a comment read.
“The Denver Nuggets are a threat to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Do not sleep on them,” another fan reacted.
“Always got horses on the brain,” one fan joked.
The Nuggets currently hold a 1-1 preseason record after a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves and a bounce-back win over the Toronto Raptors. With Jokic leading the charge, it remains to be seen whether the Nuggets can transform from the league’s “silent horse” into serious contenders for another title run this season.
