Just over one week removed from the end of the Sacramento Kings’ tumultuous 2024-25 season, they have a new general manager and are close to announcing their head coach in the coming days.
The Athletic‘s Sam Amick joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross to share his thoughts on the hiring of longtime NBA executive Scott Perry as the team’s new general manager, contemplate the future of Doug Christie, forecast what the hiring of Perry could mean for Domantas Sabonis’ tenure in Sacramento, and much more.
Be sure to check out the entire interview with Sam Amick on the Sactown Sports 1140 YouTube page.

Topics Discussed
Sam says team owner Vivek Ranadive was the driving force behind the recent GM change.
Former Kings general manager Monte McNair was not a fan of making Doug Christie the head coach going forward.
Amick says that Scott Perry is a strong hire for Sacramento due to his relationships with agents and executives around the league, whereas McNair lacked that aspect.
“Scott is a relationship guy.”
Is Christie in a good spot to become the Kings’ head coach?
Sam says that IF Christie is hired, it could be on a short-term deal.
Could Perry’s relationships around the league directly benefit the Sacramento Kings?
Sam says Perry’s presence will make negotiating with the Kings a much easier, more transparent process than the McNair-Wilcox front office.
“This Scott Perry experience, at its best, the business is just cleaner.”
What will current Kings players want to hear from Perry?
Sam thinks that Domantas Sabonis will likely stay put due to his remaining contract.

More Kings coverage from Sactown Sports
Brenden Nunes, Frankie Cartoscelli, and Chris Watkins present another episode of the Return of the Roar podcast, presented live on Sactown Sports 1140 AM as the Sacramento Kings begin an offseason that could include widespread changes.
The Kings have already made the decision to move on from 2022-23 NBA Executive of the Year winner Monte McNair, with new general manager Scott Perry set to begin his tenure with the team this week.
Perry is the organization’s fourth general manager since owner Vivek Ranadive became the majority owner of the Kings in 2013.
Since then, Sacramento has made the playoffs once (2022-23). Unfortunately, they do have a culture and identity, just an unwanted one of instability, rooted in constant turnovers within the front office and coaching staff — Doug Christie is the eighth head coach in Ranadive’s tenure.
Is Christie set to return? Will Perry make a big swing this summer? Could the Sacramento Kings go big-fish hunting for a starting point guard?
That and much more are discussed on the final Return of the Roar podcast until the start of free agency in June:
All that and plenty more great conversation can be heard using the YouTube link above or on all major podcast listening platforms, such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc.
