After a heartbreaking playoff exit last season, the Golden State Warriors have started their 2025 preseason with something to prove. The team seems determined to reclaim its dominance after a few last-minute roster moves in the offseason. They have already notched two convincing preseason wins.
Yet, for many fans, the sting of last year’s postseason elimination still lingers. However, Stephen Curry has recently provided a reassuring glimpse into the team’s renewed mindset.
What Has Stephen Curry Said Regarding the Warriors’ Practice Mindset?
In a recent practice session interview with ClutchPoints reporter Kenzo Fukuda, Curry was asked how this year’s training camp compares to the previous one. Especially in terms of intensity.
According to the four-time NBA champion, every training camp with the Warriors is intense. But what sets this year apart is not the physical grind, but the collective understanding of what it takes to build and sustain momentum.
“They all are intense, and they should be. I think there’s a different element this year, maybe because it’s outside the championship year that we are coming back. This is the continuity of how we ended last year. We have a higher sense of understanding of what we need to do to carry the momentum we had last year,” said Curry during the interview.
Last season was a rollercoaster for Golden State. Throughout the 2024–25 campaign, Curry and Draymond Green continued to lead from the front and kept the team competitive with their leadership. The February addition of Jimmy Butler III added a new edge to the roster as his scoring versatility gave the Warriors a much-needed boost.
They closed the regular season with a solid 48–34 record, which wasn’t enough for a top-six playoff spot but did earn them a play-in berth. The Warriors clawed past the Memphis Grizzlies to secure a postseason place and defeated the Houston Rockets in the first round.
Unfortunately, their run ended abruptly in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, whose defensive intensity overwhelmed the Warriors in a (4–1) series loss.
How Are the Warriors Performing Currently?
Fast-forward to the 2025–26 preseason. The Warriors are fully locked in. Curry dropped 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting in just 15 minutes against the Lakers, and he followed that with another sharp outing against the Trail Blazers, where he tallied 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Green is shooting efficiently while anchoring the defense and setting the tone with his intensity. Now, coming to Butler. He has now fully integrated into the Warriors’ system. He contributed steadily with nine points, four rebounds, and two assists in under 15 minutes against the Lakers and followed that with 12 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 17 minutes versus Portland.
Now, their latest offseason addition, Al Horford, is also adding another layer of experience to the squad. The 39-year-old has stretched the floor with his shooting and facilitated ball movement, giving the Warriors a new dynamic in the frontcourt.
The early signs are promising as the Golden State prepares to face the Lakers again on October 12 for their third preseason matchup.
