Memphis made a pair of big offseason moves, re-signing defensive anchor Jaren Jackson Jr. to a five-year extension and trading guard Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four first-round picks and a first-round pick swap. The Grizzlies later bought out Anthony’s contract while signing free agents Ty Jerome and Jock Landale and trading up to get Washington State wing Cedric Coward with the 11th overall pick. Memphis returned to the playoffs last season before getting swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round. Tuomas Iisalo, named interim head coach with nine games left last season, returns with the full-time job.
The Hawks, with a record four straight trips to the play-in tournament, look to avoid that fate again with a roster revamp that included acquiring big man Kristaps Porziņģis and signing free agents Nickeil Alexander-Walker, N’Faly Dante and Luke Kennard. Gone are Clint Capela, Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, Kobe Bufkin, Terance Mann and Larry Nance Jr. Atlanta also traded to get the rights to 23rd overall pick Asa Newell from Georgia.
The Grizzlies lost a 121-103 decision to the visiting Boston Celtics on Wednesday night while Atlanta returns to action for the first time since a 122-113 loss at the Houston Rockets on Monday.
This is a great NBA matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
