PHILADELPHIA — After a long stalemate over his contract, Quentin Grimes is back with the Philadelphia 76ers on the $8.7 million qualifying offer. The deal is for one year and he will enter unrestricted free agency in 2026.

Grimes was terrific for the Sixers after being acquired at the deadline. He averaged 21.9 points in 28 games and he scored 44 points in a game and then scored 46 in another as he showed what he can do with the ball in his hands on a nightly basis. When he hit restricted free agency, he was unable to get what he was looking for, but the Sixers were able to retain him on a deal.

Tyrese Maxey, who didn’t play many games with Grimes due to his season ending in early March, is happy to see him back with Philadelphia.

“Great,” Maxey said on Friday. “Quentin’s really good. We know what he did last year. He could also do some different things as well. He can guard with everybody out there. He can make open 3s. He can make plays for others. I think he will be good addition for us, and I think our guard rotation really good.”

Grimes will join a guard-heavy roster and look to make an impact with guys like Maxey, Jared McCain, and VJ Edgecombe. He and the other guards should look to play fast and use their ball-handling, shooting, and elite scoring ability to make things happen on the offensive end. The Sixers will be looking to grow that group of guards in the early part of the season.
