It’s been a busy summer for the Boston Celtics, as Brad Stevens has overseen multiple cost-cutting moves, both in terms of trades and letting veterans walk in free agency. Those decisions have seen the Celtics duck under the second luxury tax apron. However, Boston is still at least one move away from getting out of the luxury tax completely.
While Anfernee Simons is arguably the most logical trade candidate due to his expiring contract and $27.6 million salary, Sam Hauser has also been mooted as a potential trade candidate. Hauser joined the Celtics as an undrafted rookie in 2021 and has developed into one of the best spot-up and movement shooters in the NBA.
During a recent episode of the “How ‘Bout Them Celtics?” podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance debated whether the Celtics should consider parting with Hauser at some point this season, most likely being on or near the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Hauser played in 71 games for the Celtics last season, averaging 8.5 points and 3.2 rebounds on 41.6% shooting from 3-point range.
