The Brooklyn Nets (2-1) did not get the result they wanted on Friday when they faced the Phoenix Suns (2-1) on Friday for the first of two preseason games as part of the NBA China Games in Macao. However, Brooklyn was able to do what they needed to do to get back into Sunday’s rematch against Phoenix and they were rewarded with a narrow win over a tough opponent.

The Nets beat the Suns 111-109 despite trailing by as many as 15 points in the contest thanks to the contributions of players like guard Cam Thomas and forward Michael Porter Jr. Thomas dropped 16 points and four rebounds while Porter put up 15 points and four rebounds of his own as Brooklyn held on for their second win of the preseason with head coach Jordi Fernandez leading the way.

At first, the Nets struggled to hold down Suns guard Devin Booker, but once the second half came around, Brooklyn tightened up its defense of Booker, forcing other Phoenix players to beat them. With that being said, here are the Nets player grades following Sunday’s preseason win over the Suns in Macao, China:

Nolan Traore: C-

Traore drew his second-straight start at the point guard spot for the Nets in the preseason and he had about a similar performance as he did in Friday’s loss to the Suns. Traore did a good job of scoring the ball when the drive to the rim was there, but he did not make much of an impact outside of there. Traore had more turnovers than assists to show the growth he has to make in that area.

Cam Thomas: B-

Thomas continued to play his game in terms of looking for his shot whenever possible, but he wasn’t able to be as efficient as he was a couple of days ago against this same Phoenix team. While Thomas didn’t have his usual scoring touch, he did a great job of being aggressive on the offensive end, allowing himself to generate a considerable amount of free-throws to make up for the inefficiency.

Terance Mann: C

Mann had one of his quieter games of the preseason as he allowed the offense to run through Cam Thomas and Michael Porter Jr., but the former Atlanta Hawks forward still make his mark when he needed to. Mann was still efficient with his touches, but he limited his impact by getting into foul trouble early enough in the game to disrupt his rhythm.

Michael Porter Jr.: B+

Porter had arguably his best game of the preseason given the circumstances of playing against the Suns in China along with the fact that running mate Cam Thomas struggled to shoot the ball for the entirety of the game. Porter was effective from all over the floor and he helped out in the rebounding phase of the game as well.

Nic Claxton: B-

After Claxton’s game on Friday, it seemed that he was on the verge of a career season in the NBA given how effective he was on the offensive end against the Suns. While Claxton didn’t have that kind of offensive impact in this one, he still displayed his ability to rebound the basketball and to impact the ball on the defensive end when his team needs a spark.

Ziaire Williams: A

Williams did a great job of shooting the ball from three-point range, continuing his improvement from last season in terms of spreading the floor for his teammates. Williams continues to play solid basketball off the bench with the way that he makes plays through his unselfishness and hard work ethic.

Noah Clowney: C

Clowney did not have any gaudy numbers in this one, but he did a good job of scoring the ball when the opportunity came his way. Clowney did not come away with that many rebounds, but that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t being physical as he had more than a few times where he had to use his strength to ward someone off from the basket or give himself space.

Day’Ron Sharpe: C-

Sharpe did not make a ton of shots from the field, but he made up for that by going to the basket strong and drawing plenty of contact for free-throws. Sharpe made the majority of his free-throws and he still continued to rebound the basketball with the strength that he normally has throughout his career.

Drake Powell: B

Powell had another solid performance for the Nets since coming back from his left knee tendinopathy as he looks more comfortable shooting the ball from three-point land with each passing game. Powell seems to be the rookie that can make an impact on both ends of the floor with his ability to use his athleticism to gain an advantage on either end.

Ben Saraf: A

Saraf did not start this game as head coach Jordi Fernandez chose to start Nolan Traore, but Saraf came into the game like he was the starter with the way that he passed the ball. Saraf notched double-digit assists in this one and he looked pretty comfortable with the ball in his hands throughout the course of the game despite perimeter pressure from the Suns.
