NBA analysts are mostly down on the Boston Celtics for the coming 2025-26 regular season, and their (lack of an established) big man rotation is a major part of the reason why, with players like Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kornet now suiting up for other ball clubs.

But Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic sees big things (pun intended) ahead for the Celtics this season just the same, and former Raptors forward Chris Boucher is a significant part of the reason why. “Obviously, they made big changes in the roster, and they’re missing (Jayson) Tatum, which is a big one,” said Rajakovic via CLNS Media ahead of his team’s preseason tilt with Boston on Friday (Oct. 10), alluding to that loss of established frontcourt players.

“I think they’re going to be a team that’s going to still be very competitive in the East,” added the Toronto coach, bucking the trend of low expectations for the Celtics. “Coach (Joe) Mazzulla is doing a great job leading the team, so I think they’re going to be very competitive.”

As for Boston’s newest veteran big and how he’ll fit in the Celtics, Rajakovic was generous in his praise. “Chris Boucher is a seasoned player, veteran player,” he explained.

“He’s been in this league for quite some time — his whole career, (barring one game — ed.) he’s spent with one organization. I think that playing for the Boston Celtics is going to be good for him.”
