Last season Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets (1-1) ended the Los Angeles Clippers (1-0) season in the first round of the playoffs. They play each other on Sunday in a preseason matchup. Heading into this season, both teams have championship aspirations. Denver added Cam Johnson, Bruce Brown, Jonas Valanciunas and Tim Hardaway Jr. to the roster, giving the team veteran depth for the first time since winning the 2023 NBA Championship. Through two preseason games, that quartet has combined for 44 points in 67 minutes. Johnson started both games, getting to play alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, while the other three have come off the bench.

Los Angeles opened up preseason play by dropping 142 points on the Guangzhou Loong-Lions at home. The team started Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Ivica Zubac, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Derrick Jones Jr., who combined for 44 points.
Chris Paul came off the bench and finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists, wearing a Clippers jersey for the first time since 2017. This season, the Clippers are set to have the oldest roster in the NBA, with an average age of 33.2 years old.
The other new additions this offseason for Los Angeles also played well. John Collins, Brook Lopez and Nicolas Batum combined for 29 points off the bench. Bradley Beal did not play in Los Angeles’ preseason opener.
