The Oklahoma City Thunder (and the Seattle Supersonics before them) have 52 jersey numbers worn by the players who have suited up for the franchise since its founding at the start of the 1967-68 season. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Thunder Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team.
And while those Supersonics jerseys may not remain part of the franchise history should a new team be established in Seattle as was the case with the return of the Charlotte Hornets, they are part of the Thunder’s history today.
Without further ado, let’s get into the next of those jersey numbers in our series.
And for today’s article, we will continue with the first of four people to wear the No. 50, OKC big man alum Mike Muscala. After ending his college career at Bucknell, Muscala was picked up with the 44th overall selection of the 2013 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks.
The St. Louis Park, Minnesota native would play the first five seasons of his pro career with the Atlanta Hawks after a draft night deal. He also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Lakers before he signed with OKC in 2019 for the first of two stints.
That ended in 2023 with a trade to the Celtics, and he played for the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons before returning to Oklahoma City to end his NBA career. During his time suiting up for the Thunder, Muscala wore only jersey Nos. 33 and 50 and put up 6.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
