While this college football season has taught us that preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing, it’s still fun to see and speculate on the first official Associated Press poll of the college basketball season.
That poll comes out today and will surely feature the Kentucky Wildcats.
Head coach Mark Pope and his team finished last season with a 24-12 overall record and a loss in the Sweet Sixteen.
They’ve returned several key components from last year’s team while also bringing in both talented freshmen and veteran transfers to further diversify the roster.
“Otega Oweh — a true star — is among those returning for Kentucky on a roster that on the whole looks more balanced and deeper than it was last season when it won 24 games. Arizona State transfer Jayden Quaintance, Pitt transfer Jaland Lowe and Alabama transfer Mouhamed Dioubate give this team a ton of experience.“
Notable teams ahead of Kentucky that the Wildcats are scheduled to see this season include Purdue (No. 1), Florida (No. 3), St. John’s (No. 4), and Louisville (No. 10).
Teams falling behind them that they’ll also face include Alabama (No. 14), Auburn (No. 17), Tennessee (No. 18), Arkansas (No. 19), North Carolina (No. 21), Gonzaga (No. 22), Michigan State (No. 23), and Texas (No. 24).
Kentucky is in line for a busy few weeks following this past Saturday’s Big Blue Madness.
The annual Blue-White game is this Friday, followed by their exhibition game with Purdue next Friday.
They’ll then host Georgetown in another exhibition on the 30th before officially opening their season against Nicholls on November 4th.
