Former NFL star Michael Irvin recently suggested that NFL players might be the answer to revitalizing the NBA Dunk Contest. Yet, the solution could very well lie within the NBA itself. On Sunday, Boston Celtics’ Wendell Moore Jr. showcased a spectacular dunk against the Cleveland Cavaliers that hinted at the league’s own talent.

Late in the fourth quarter, Moore electrified the crowd with a powerful poster dunk that sent the Celtics bench into a frenzy. Even the broadcast commentators appeared visibly amazed by the highlight.

This season, Moore Jr. is on an Exhibit 10 contract with the Celtics. Such contracts are non-guaranteed, one-year deals at the league minimum. But after his preseason performance, the Celtics might consider investing in the young talent.

The Celtics won the game 138-107. Moore scored five points and grabbed one rebound. He also dished out two assists in just nine minutes of play.

Moore Jr. was originally selected 26th overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022 NBA Draft. However, he began his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves after being traded on draft night. In his rookie season, he averaged 1.4 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game.

Moore spent two seasons with the Timberwolves before moving on to the Detroit Pistons for a single season. Last season, he suited up for the Charlotte Hornets and put up 5.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game across 16 games.

In the G-League, Moore shone even brighter. He averaged 19 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.
