The Brooklyn Nets having an opportunity this season to significantly change the roster thanks to the five picks they have in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft in June. While Brooklyn would be happy to get more young talent in the building, they will still have to figure out who else will be on the roster and it seems like how aggressive they are will depend on the outcome.
“The Nets are expected to make big splashes on the trade market and/or in free agency only if it helps them become a top-four team in the East next season as a contender,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote on Wednesday. What Scotto wrote is interesting given that the Eastern Conference could shake up in a major way with players like Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially playing elsewhere next season.

“Locking the franchise into the sixth or seventh seed doesn’t move the collective needle for the franchise, as executive Sean Marks noted in April,” Scotto continued. When Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks has been asked about his plans for rebuilding the Nets, he has made it clear that he and the front office are keeping all options on the table, including building through the Draft.
“If you’re going after max-level talent, they’ve got to automatically and absolutely change the trajectory of your team,” Marks said during his exit interview in April. “This can’t be like let’s go get this and lock ourselves into being a six, seven seed. If we’re going and when we go all in, you’re going in to compete and compete at the highest level and contend.”
The Nets have a number of options when it comes to improving the team through the Draft, trade market, and free-agency, but how much they invest in trades and free-agent signings will depend on who they can attract to Brooklyn. Either way, the Nets are set up to have a lot of young talent on the roster at the least and at the most, they could be on the brink of making big moves if players like Antetokounmpo shake loose at the right time.
