LeBron James will reportedly miss time due to a sciatica injury, but his influence on the Lakers remains strong. Despite wearing street clothes, he has been present on media day and on preseason contests, openly supporting the team.

While being sidelined, LeBron is expected to closely monitor the Lakers’ situation. But that doesn’t mean that his teammates can’t have fun on his behalf, right? Lakers guard Austin Reaves decidedly tried to make a fun comment while on the bench, screaming the famous ‘IT AIN’T OUR BALL’ meme during a Lakers preseason game in LA. The clip has been posted on X by the team’s official account.

The origins of the meme have been murky, but the most famous example of it came from the 2020 NBA Bubble. The Lakers, who eventually won the championship that year, were all in during their playoff run. The phrase was meant with all seriousness by James when he contested a call by the referees. How it became a viral meme is anybody’s guess.

At 40, the only thing that could slow him down is his age and injuries. His game is still considered at the top. With LeBron expected to miss the team’s opener, a reporter from ESPN took a wild jab aimed at LeBron’s current injury. Was that warranted? Probably not. However, it goes to show that everybody is still closely monitoring the four-time champion’s moves both on and off the court.

It’s hard to fathom that this will be the first time LeBron will miss the opening night festivities. He hasn’t missed any opening games in the past 22 years. Well, he might have the luxury of getting himself one hundred percent healthy because the team now has a player named Luka.
