BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – It’s almost time to tip things off at the Boys & Girls Club of the Brazos Valley (BGCBV). Registration is open now through Oct. 31 for the nonprofit’s basketball league.
The competition is open to all children between the ages of 6 and 12. The cost to sign up is $50 for members of the BGCBV and $75 for non-members.
Madison Hill, an annual fund associate for the BGCBV, told KBTX the league is open to kids at any skill level and school.
“You can live anywhere and be a part of our league,” she said.
While kids who sign up can be assigned to a team, preexisting teams can also sign up as a group.
“If you have a coach and you want to play with your friends, you can register an entire team,” explained Hill.
A mandatory preseason clinic will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1. Practices begin on Nov. 10, while the games start up on Jan. 12.
The lessons from participating extend far beyond the court.
Some of those include “being on a team, learning leadership – all of those intangible skills,” Hill listed. “Even if you’re not really interested in basketball itself, we have so many programs at the club that will fill your needs and your interests.”
The BGCBV is also accepting help from those interested in coaching, sponsoring a team, or volunteering.
“We need all of those extra hands, all of those people to pour into these athletes,” Hill added. “Even if you don’t have kids, there’s a way for you to be involved.”
