CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers are entering the 2025-26 season with a guard-heavy roster as they look to push the pace on the offensive end of the floor. With Quentin Grimes back in the fold to join Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Jared McCain when he returns from injury, the Sixers will be looking to play fast.
With the return of Grimes to join the guards, one can expect to see some 3-guard–maybe even some 4-guard–lineups as coach Nick Nurse looks to utilize the roster. When considering that anybody could play either forward spot when it comes to the potential lineups, Grimes could be playing some small forward, and he knows it.

“Just do whatever Nick needs me to do to go out there and help the team win,” Grimes said at practice on Tuesday. “1, 2, 3, power forward maybe if I have to. Just do whatever I have to do to help the team win.”
With Grimes back to join a talented roster, the Sixers are in a good spot. They have needed somebody from the perimeter who can knock down shots in isolation, handle the ball, make explosive plays on offense, and be able to change games on the defensive end. Throw that ability Grimes has next to guys like Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Maxey, and the Sixers have a lot of hope for the upcoming season.
Speaking of Embiid, these recent practices have given Grimes the chance to really get some experience playing next to the big fella. He didn’t get many chances after he was acquired at the deadline back in February.
“He’s been looking great compared to when I got here last year and seeing him last season,” Grimes stated. “Through the summer, you can tell he’s been in tremendous shape with his body. He’s been coming in–even with some of the live stuff that he does, he looks like pretty much getting back to his old self, so it’s been really good seeing him out there. He hops in with us sometimes with the scrimmages and stuff like that, but he looks really good so far.”

If Grimes can get that chemistry down with Embiid, then he can earn more playing time and figure out how to get his shots within the offense. He is an excellent cutter off the ball so that is something Nurse and the coaching staff will be looking for from him. He should be able to knock down open 3s due to the attention the big fella attracts and make an impact.
