Texas basketball may be entering a new era with Sean Miller as its head coach, but the media that covers SEC basketball expects some similar results.
A year after finishing tied for 14th in the conference, the Longhorns rank No. 9 in the preseason media poll taken at the SEC Tipoff in Birmingham, Ala. No Texas player earned a spot on one of the three All-SEC preseason teams.
Texas went 19-16 last season, its worst mark since the 2016-17 team that went 11-22 in former coach Shaka Smart’s second year. The Longhorns became one of 14 SEC teams to earn a selection to the NCAA Tournament and fell in a First Four game to Xavier, then coached by Miller. Head coach Rodney Terry was fired four days after the 86-82 loss to Xavier and Miller was quickly named the program’s new coach.
The 2025-26 campaign begins Nov. 3 with SEC play set to begin Jan. 3. The 2026 SEC Tournament will be March 11-15 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
