The Brooklyn Nets are one week away from the beginning of their 2025-26 NBA regular season with a matchup at the Charlotte Hornets to open the campaign. Brooklyn will eventually have to trim the roster down to 18 players (15 standard, 3 Two-Way) and along the way, they will have to make some tough decisions to get ready for the regular season.

The Nets announced on Wednesday that they have waived forward Fanbo Zeng, who was initially brought to training camp on an Exhibit 10 deal, also known as a training camp contract. Zeng was brought to camp with the expectation of competing for the last Two-Way spot on the team, but after the Nets let him go, it seems that Zeng will have to continue his NBA career elsewhere.

Zeng, 22, did not play much for head coach Jordi Fernandez during the preseason as he played in just one of the three preseason games that Brooklyn has played as of this writing. Zeng recorded 10.1 minutes in the preseason, but he did not have much to show for it outside of totaling one steal and three personal fouls, showing how he still some parts of his game to improve on.

In addition to the Nets waiving Zeng, Brooklyn announced after the move that they signed forward Grant Nelson, indicating that there could be some plans for him after the preseason. Nelson was brought to camp to compete for the last Two-Way spot on the Nets’ roster, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto earlier in the summer, but he has not played in the preseason thus far.

Time will tell if the Nets signing Nelson means that he will be signed to a Two-Way contract, but he could have some competition for that spot. Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported on Tuesday that forward Drew Timme, who was waived by Brooklyn on Monday, could be brought back to the team given that he’s eligible for a Two-Way spot, so the next week could present some interesting roster-building moments.
