In what seems like an unreal job description, the Los Angeles Lakers have posted an ad on Teamworkonline looking for a conditioning coach. While it is not unusual for teams to look for strength and conditioning coaches online, the job description is what makes the post so unbelievable.

Lakers Throwing Shade at Luka With New Conditioning Coach Posting

When you look at the job description, it sounds accurate for a strength and conditioning coach. But factoring in all the Luka Doncic weight rumors, the ad looks funnier. Here are the interesting parts of the job description:

The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Los Angeles Lakers ensures that each player has an individually designed strength and conditioning plan to promote and support their maximum performance and health maintenance.
This role implements, monitors, and adjusts player workouts year-round as needed. In addition, the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for motivating players and holding them accountable for their work in the weight room. Must be able to work well in a team, work irregular hours, and travel overnight for extensive periods of time.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of things to sort out in the offseason, but it looks like hiring a conditioning coach for Doncic will be one of the priorities.

Former Player Calls it an Insult to Luka

The job posting about the Lakers looking for a conditioning coach might have remained buried. But the guys at “Get Up” know how to find such strange ads. They checked several times to make sure the ad is accurate. Speaking on “Get Up,” former player Jay Williams said:

“JJ Redick saying that they’re not in world championship condition is one thing, I think it definitely calls out Luka. This is a massive insult. If this is real, it is a massive insult. You are looking for a strength and conditioning coach who could motivate players, that’s embarrassing you don’t do that. You have private conversations with world-class strength and conditioning coaches. You don’t post that online.”

To be fair, the Lakers do operate a little differently than a lot of teams in the league. However, even this is too much for a world-class organization with the second-most championships in the league. Even when Shaquille O’Neal played for the Lakers, they knew he had weight and conditioning issues. But they didn’t make a big deal out of it. Kobe Bryant ranted about Shaq’s fitness, but that was it. This sounds like the Lakers are making an even bigger mess with Luka than the Mavericks did.

Even Fans Laugh about It

The job was posted on Reddit almost instantly as it went online. And the comments below the post are hilarious. For example, one fan wrote, “200k to tell Luka he is fat? Sign me up!” Of course, there were others who thought that the salary was too low for the market. For example, one fan wrote, “200k for the head of strength and conditioning for a pro sports team in LA is crazy low, wtf”.

Of course, you can say that the description is 100% for a strength and conditioning coach. But when you factor in all the conditioning rumors about Luka before being traded to the Lakers, the post sounds even crazier.

Lakers Should Hire Anze Macek As Conditioning Coach

If the Lakers are serious about getting Luka in the best possible shape, they should just hire Anze Macek, the Slovenian National team coach who is also a close friend with Doncic. Macek worked with Dallas staff during the 2023-24 season. Doncic had an MVP-type season, averaging 33.9 points on 48.7% shooting from the field and 38.2% from three-point range (career best).
