It’s pretty normal to go anywhere and have someone ask for donations. But today, we got the rare opportunity to see what some of those donations go to support.
“Positive Tomorrows is a school and social services agency specifically serving kiddos and families experiencing homelessness,” said Margaret Creighton, President and CEO of Positive Tomorrows.
Getting support for the school can be a challenge, and there where Oklahoma company, Simple Modern has stepped in.
“Simple Modern is an Oklahoma company. It’s been around ten years, our mission is, we exist to give generously, and so we sell water bottles, backpacks, all sorts of things for on-the-go families,” said Christ Hoyle Chief Marketing Director of Simple Modern.
The company has given away over ten million dollars to charities and nonprofits. Last season they teamed up with the Thunder selling water bottles at some of the games to help Positive Tomorrows.
“So, the donation is five thousand dollars today,” said Hoyle.
Completely covering this year’s cost for the school’s food lab.
“I know that our kiddos are going to have food in the afternoons, it means that we can be creative with the things that we do, and it gave us the supplies to do more things with the kids,” said Creighton.
The food lab is a place where kids learn to prepare food, it is also a space where the kids are celebrated—sometimes in ways they’ve never experienced before.
“We also use this space for our birthday parties, so, every kiddo that attends our school gets their very own birthday party that is thrown by volunteers, so it’s a very special fun space for us,” said Creighton.
For the kids the donation was secondary to a visit from the Thunder girls and Rumble. And when Rumble shows up, you just never know what to expect.
“Rumble is always a little bit naughty, which we love,” said Creighton.
