Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is coming into the 2025-26 NBA season with something to prove after being traded away by the Denver Nuggets during the offseason. Porter comes to a Brooklyn team where he will most likely be higher in the offensive hierarchy than he was with the Nuggets and it seems that one outlet’s ranking is accounting for that increase in role.
In its latest top-100 player rankings for the 2025-26 campaign, Bleacher Report ranked Porter as the 74th-best player in the Association heading into the season, an impressive ranking for the former Missouri Tiger. For context, Porter ranks ahead of Miami Heat forward Norman Powell and behind Portland Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday, formerly of the Boston Celtics.
“We’re about to see how much more on-ball verve Michael Porter Jr. may have been hiding as a third option on the Denver Nuggets,” Grant Hughes wrote for Bleacher Report when outlining Porter’s place on the list. “Now thrust into a more substantial role on a Brooklyn Nets team devoid of experienced playmakers, MPJ will get a chance to create more of his own scoring opportunities than ever.”
Porter, 27, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 50.4% from the field and 39.5% from three-point land. It’s important to note that Porter put up those stats last season while playing behind perennial MVP candidate Nikola Jokic and guard Jamal Murray, relegating Porter to more of an off-ball threat who had to wait his turn to contribute.
With the Nets, Porter will be in a position to be the second-leading scorer behind guard Cam Thomas with the opportunity for more depending on how head coach Jordi Fernandez wants to use Porter within the offense. If his season goes better than expected, Porter could find himself higher on this kind of last next season if he is able to show more of his game than he has up to this point of his career.
