ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins is the kind of basketball analyst who wouldn’t back down from any take. He’s often on the spectrum of controversy with his comments, no matter how ridiculous they are. One recent example of this is when Perkins opened up about his strained relationship with Russell Westbrook, his former teammate in the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Perkins, unsurprisingly, was part of the minuscule crowd that lauded the Dallas Mavericks for trading away Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. He doubled down on his take on his recent appearance on ESPN, while singing praise for AD’s talent.
“We are forgetting [Anthony Davis] is one of the most skilled power forwards to ever play the game of basketball,” according to Kendrick Perkins on ESPN.
While it’s true that Anthony Davis is one of the most skilled forwards ever, his injury woes have done more harm than good to his former teams. The 6-foot-10 big man has only suited up in nine games for Dallas last season. He’s looking healthy this season, though. Dallas would love for AD to be their anchor on both ends of the floor. The jury is still out on whether the Mavs or the Lakers have won the Luka-AD trade.

While most have questioned how Kawhi Leonard will perform next season amid the surrounding noise, Perkins thinks the opposite will happen. He thinks that the scandal will elevate Leonard’s game next season. Well, that’s quite a surprising take, ain’t it, Perk?
That’s how Perkins usually approaches his takes on basketball: a bit of facts plus a ton of controversy. Perhaps he’s taken a chapter from Stephen A. Smith’s playbook? That seems to be the case here for the former one-time champ.
