IOWA CITY, Iowa — Fans will get a first look at Iowa’s basketball teams this week as the University of Iowa hosts “Hawkeye Hoops from Downtown.”

The free, hour-long event begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday on the outdoor basketball court behind Burge Residence Hall. It serves as an unofficial tipoff to the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons. Parking is free for the first hour in any downtown Iowa City ramp; each additional hour costs $2.

Assistant men’s coach Bryston Williams and women’s assistant coach Jasmyn Walker joined Iowa’s News Now Thursday morning to preview the event. Fans will meet first-year men’s coach Ben McCollum and second-year women’s coach Jan Jensen, along with new players.

We’re so excited to see our fans at the Hawkeye Hoops from Downtown event with our men’s basketball team,” Jensen said. “The best fanbase in the country will get a chance to see our new players and teams for the very first time. We look forward to seeing everyone on Oct. 17.

Hawkeye Hoops from Downtown promises fans an evening of player introductions, community activities, and a first glimpse of the teams ahead of the 2025-26 season.
