  • October 16, 2025

Milwaukee, Wis. (WMTV) -On this day, October 16, 1968, the Milwaukee Bucks played their first-ever NBA game against the Chicago Bulls.

More than 8,400 fans were in the stands at what was then known as “Milwaukee Arena,” now more commonly known as “The Mecca.”

The Bucks ended up falling just short to the Bulls, suffering an 89-84 loss.

The Bucks would lose their first five games of the season before picking up their first win against the Detroit Pistons.

The Bucks finished 27-55 in their first season, which landed them the first pick in the 1969 NBA Draft, where they selected Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Abdul-Jabbar turned the franchise around overnight, leading the Bucks to an NBA Championship in the Buck’s fourth season.
