Looks like Nets rookie G Egor Demin should be good to go for Friday’s preseason game against the Raptors and presumably, the season-opener at the Hornets on Oct. 22. https://t.co/sNx4geHeea

Brooklyn Nets rookie guard Egor Demin has been out of action for quite some time as he has been dealing with a plantar fascia injury since the offseason. As a result, Demin has missed Brooklyn’s first three preseason games as he continues to recover from the injury, but it seems like he will be back to play in the Nets’ final preseason exhibition at this rate.

According to CJ Holmes of the New York Daily News, Brooklyn head coach Jordi Fernandez said on Thursday that Demin has been participating in 5-on-5 work, representing a ramp-up in his injury status. Holmes went on to note that Fernandez mentioned that Demin is expected to see some playing time in Friday’s preseason finale at the Toronto Raptors, just in time for Nets fans wanting to see Demin against NBA competition.

Since Demin was drafted with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the most that Nets fans have seen from him was the three games that he played in during the Las Vegas Summer League in July. In those three contests, Demin played some solid basketball as he averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 40.7% from the field and 43.5% from three-point land.

Assuming that everything goes according to plan, Demin will take the floor on Friday and will hopefully look like the plantar fascia injury is not bothering him to the point that he can be productive on the floor. On the injury front, Demin and veteran forward Haywood Highsmith (knee surgery) are the only two players sidelined with their respective so Brooklyn is almost fully-healthy prior to the beginning of the regular season.

While it is great news that Demin should be available for Friday’s preseason finale, it will be interesting to see how he will be deployed given the ongoing point guard battle between himself, Nolan Traore, and Ben Saraf. Even if Demin doesn’t start, how much he plays could be an indication of where he is from a physical perspective along with where Fernandez sees him within the rotation as he heads into his rookie campaign.
