2025 NBA draft lottery: Mavericks, Spurs and 76ers big winners
The Mavericks secure the top pick in the 2025 NBA draft lottery despite a 1.8% chance
The biggest story of the lottery is Mavericks getting the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. But the Spurs had some fascinating results, too.
Even though Dallas will unexpectedly have the first chance to select Duke sensation Cooper Flagg, their crosstown rivals in San Antonio will also have one of the earliest picks on draft night. They have the No. 2 overall pick, which we currently project they will use to select Rutgers freshman Dylan Harper.
Harper could fill in as as a long-term guard pairing alongside De’Aaron Fox for the Spurs to pair with Victor Wembanyama. But the front office could now also use this pick as part of a trade package to land Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Bucks.
The Spurs were already one of the most fascinating destinations even before the lottery.
But now that San Antonio could offer a chance to use the No. 2 overall pick, the Bucks could start their rebuild as fast as possible with an exciting floor general like Harper. He is, after all, arguably the most exciting offensive player in this class.
Windhorst immediately says the Spurs are in an opportunity to make a trade with number 2. Not reporting they would but that was his first thought on their spot.

If the Bucks are taking offers for Antetokounmpo, as ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggested, the No. 2 overall pick is a great place to start. Expect that San Antonio at least highly consider this if they can make the best offer.
However, if Mavericks executive Nico Harrison decides to stunningly offer the No. 1 pick to entice Milwaukee (or if Houston offers Amen Thompson), we can immediately throw this conversation out the window.
