Hawks
The Hawks aren’t in a rush to extend Trae Young, and that’s by design.
According to Fred Katz and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Atlanta will hold off on extension talks with its All-Star guard until it gets a better read on how the new roster fits together.
That means Young will open the season without a new deal, something he admitted was “a little disappointing” but not a distraction.
The 25-year-old is coming off another big year — 24.2 points, an NBA-best 11.6 assists, and 76 appearances — but his future in Atlanta remains open-ended.
The Hawks still control the timeline. Young can become a free agent next summer if he declines his $49 million player option for 2026-27, but he’ll remain extension-eligible all next season.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is confident it can lock in Most Improved Player Dyson Daniels long-term, whether via rookie extension before Monday’s deadline or restricted free agency in 2026, per The Athletic.
Bucks
The Bucks are bringing home a familiar face. Former lottery pick Johnny Davis has agreed to a deal with Milwaukee, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Davis — a Wisconsin native and former Badger — is expected to sign an Exhibit 10 contract, which allows the Bucks to waive him and still give him an $85,300 bonus if he spends 60 days with the Wisconsin Herd.
A former No. 10 overall pick by the Wizards, Davis has struggled to find his footing in the league, averaging 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 112 career games.
He spent time in the G League last season with Westchester and went unsigned over the summer.
The Bucks have two open roster spots and won’t need to make a corresponding move to add Davis.
Knicks
It’s been a busy week for the Knicks’ back end of the roster. The team signed and then quickly waived Donovan Williams after giving him an Exhibit 10 deal, per the club.
Williams is expected to join the Westchester Knicks, where he averaged 17.8 points and 4.7 rebounds last season. The 24-year-old wing has also spent time in China and Canada.
To make room for Williams, the Knicks waived Malcolm Brogdon, who unexpectedly announced his retirement Wednesday despite being in line to make the regular-season roster. The 2017 Rookie of the Year and 2023 Sixth Man of the Year was on a non-guaranteed deal.
New York also signed and waived Isaiah Roby, who’s likely heading back to Westchester as well.
Roby averaged 13.6 points and 8.1 boards in the G League last year and has logged 151 NBA appearances with the Thunder and Spurs.
